A beautiful 18th Century Georgian country house offering historic bed and breakfast accommodation, Harptree Court is set in its own landscaped parkland almost unchanged since it was laid out in 1797. Arrive into the tranquil atmosphere of a family home, with formal and informal rooms boasting views of the grounds and farmland beyond.

Inside

• Style: Classical: tasteful, traditional furnishings with period pieces and delicate floral fabrics.
• Bedrooms: The three large bedrooms (2 doubles, one twin) are all beautifully decorated with Persian rugs, and have stunning views across the gardens. The rooms are well appointed, each with a TV and DVD or video player, tea/coffee making facilities, books and magazines and chocolates, fresh fruit and flowers.
• Bathrooms: The twin room (The Blue Room) has a hand basin and a private shower room adjacent, one of the doubles (The Rust Room) has an en suite bathroom and the other double (The Lavender Room) has an en suite with a bath and a separate shower.
• For relaxation: Afternoon tea on the lawn or in front of a roaring fire; an after dinner stroll in the garden or a walk through the carpets of flowers in springtime.
• For recreation: Tennis and croquet outdoors, or indoors enjoy your host’s collection of 70’s rock music.

Outside 17 acres of magnificent parkland and gardens, complete with folly, a pond, mature trees, long drives, a subterranean passage a tennis court and a croquet lawn. In spring the woodland is carpeted with wildflowers.

• In-house cuisine: Breakfast can be taken in the elegant dining room or in the classical hall in front of the fire. Eggs are sourced just footsteps away, sausages are made from rare breed pigs reared on a farm nearby, and tomatoes and fruit come from the kitchen gardens. The rest of the ingredients used are sourced as locally as possible. Homemade evening meals are available from £20 per head, as well as packed lunches and afternoon tea (all by prior arrangement).
• Eating out: There is a handful of excellent country pubs nearby including: The Waldegrave Arms, East Harptree (a five minute walk), the more modern Kings Arms, Litton (2½ mile drive) and the Pony and Trap, Chew Magna (a 5 mile drive but truly worth it).

About Your Hosts

Linda loves reading cookery books, entertaining and meeting people. She loves all kinds of music but Charles loves his collection of 70’s rock, which guests are free to play!
They both enjoy fishing, croquet, games, films and walking, but are particularly interested in making sure their guests are made to feel at home.

• Fishing, bird watching and sailing are available close by on Chew Valley Lake, and there is a golf course in the surrounding area as well
• Go walking in the nearby Mendip Hills
• Wells is only 8 miles away, the smallest city in England and home to one of England’s most impressive cathedrals
• Head to Bristol (12 miles away), with its maritime history, bustling new harbour, restaurants, markets, museums and galleries.
• Situated 14 miles away, Bath is famous for its Roman Baths
• Explore the surrounding coast and countryside and a scattering of heritage homes and gardens.
